A Brook

This piece is a tribute to life and to creativity that ebbs and flows like a river. This poem by Emily Dickinson calls to an aspect of life that a person can retreat to during times of strife, a place that can calm the storm and provide relief, comparing it to a brook. There are many forms this brook takes: for some people, it is a friend or a loved one; for others, it is a hobby or another form of craftsmanship. In some seasons of life, love abounds, and we find ourselves fully exploring and embodying the qualities of our core aspects, like when spring warmth melts the winter snow and causes a river to overflow. At other times of the year, or throughout the human life cycle, our brook dries up, and we feel depressed. Whatever stage you’re in, and whatever your brook looks like, it is important to make the most of every opportunity and seek refuge in your heart when you can!
